Sydney Marathon Course Map

The Sydney Marathon course is one of the most iconic in the world, taking runners on a breathtaking journey through the heart of Australia’s largest city.

The race starts on Miller Street in North Sydney, where athletes immediately cross the Sydney Harbour Bridge on closed roads—one of the event’s most spectacular highlights. From there, the course winds through the city’s CBD, past Barangaroo, Darling Harbour, The Rocks, and Pyrmont, before heading east through Hyde Park, Moore Park, Centennial Park, Kensington and Kingsford.

Runners then return via Oxford Street and Darlinghurst, looping back toward the city. The marathon finishes dramatically at the Sydney Opera House forecourt, framed by the Harbour and Circular Quay—one of the most scenic finish lines in global road running.

The route features a net elevation drop of 83 meters but includes around 313 meters of total climbing, making it a rolling yet fast course. Aid stations are positioned every 5 km, with Powerade and GU Energy gels available at key points (20 km & 30 km). The official cut-off time is 7 hours, with all participants required to finish by 3:15 pm.
