• Yuta Shitara Breaks Gold Coast Marathon Course Record With 2:07:50

Japanese runner Yuta Shitara won the 2019 Gold Coast Marathon, an IAAF Gold Label Road Race on Sunday (7). The former Japanese record holder,  Shitara, set a new course and a new Australian all-comers record of 2:07:50. The second place took Kiptum Barnabas of Kenya in 2:08.02 while third place took New Zealand's Zane Robertson who in his marathon debut clocked 2:08:19.

Meanwhile, an impressive performance produced 44-year-old Bernard Labat, the former 1500m, 3000m indoors, and 5000m World champion, who finished in 7th place in 2:12:10. Lagat made a marathon debut last year in New York City where he clocked 2:17:20.

In the women's race top 3 went under 2 hours and 29 minutes. Kenyan Rodah Tanui clocked 2:27:56 for the win. Australian Milly Clark shaved 45 seconds from her personal best to finish in 2nd in 2:28:28 while Nazret Weldu Gebrehiwet (2:28:57) concluded the podium.
