• Van Niekerk Named Best Male Athlete of Rio Olympics
South Africa's Wayde Van Niekerk was named best male athlete by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) for his brilliant performance at the Rio Olympics on Tuesday in Qatar's capital Doha.
The 24-year-old South African received ANOC's best male athlete of the year award for winning the 400m gold in Rio Olympics 400m in a new word record time of 43.03 seconds.
Breakthrough National Olympic Committees award was presented to the Bahrain Olympic Committee for winning their first ever Olympic medal or first ever Olympic gold medal at Rio 2016.
In Rio, the 19-year-old Ruth Jebet claimed the women's 3000m steeple gold becoming the first Bahraini athlete to win a gold in Olympic games.
