Kenyan-Born Turkish runner claims European Women's 10,000m crown

The 19-year-old Yasemin Can prevailed in the women's 10,000m final on day one at the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam on Wednesday.

Formally known as Vivian Jemutai, Yasemin Can, who three months ago became  Turkish citizen but lives and trains outside of her new country, powered to European 10,000m gold clocking a new PB of  31:12.86 and setting a new European U23 record. 

Silver medal in a new personal best of  31:19.03 took Portugal's Dulce Felix with Norway's Karoline Grovdal completing the podium clocking in a new personal best of 31:25.45.

Defending European Champion the-42-year-old  Jo Pavey of Great Britain had a solid performance as she finished in 5ht  in 31:34.61.

The European Athletics Championships will continue tomorrow and will conclude on Sunday, July 10.
