Diamond League starts this week in Doha

The 2016 IAAF Diamond League will kick off on Friday, May 6 with a meeting in Qatar's capital Doha. 

Like in previous years, this year's Diamond League meet in Doha will feature some of the planet's top stars.  The Doha meeting organizers have attracted 9 current world champions, 38 champions and 80 medalists from the previous Olympic games.

One big change  that the IAAF Diamond League Organizers have made for this year's edition is that the top 6 athletes in each Diamond League event will score points. This change will allow more athletes to fight for the prize money unlike in previous editions were only top 3 athletes would score allowing less athletes to battle for top prizes. 

There are 14 meetings with each offering US$480,000 in prize money and the IAAF Diamond League has selected 32 event disciplines which are carefully distributed among the meetings.

The overall winner of each of the 32 Diamond Races will receive a US$40,000 cash prize and a Diamond Trophy.
