Kiprop clocks 1:44.6 in season opener

 Several Kenyan track stars opened 2016 season yesterday at Eldoret National Stadium, situated nearly 2000m above sea level. 

 

Very impressive time produced Olympic and World 1500m champion Asbel Kiprop, who clocked 1:44.6 to win the 800m in his first race of the year. His time was a new stadium record and one of the fastest times this year in the world. Kiprop's next race will be1500m on May 6 at the opening Diamond league meet in Doha Qatar.

 In the men's 1500m Edwin Kiptoo clocked the fastest time of 3:43.3, while multiple World and Olympic steeplechase champion Ezekiel Kemboi posted 3:47.7 in a different heat. 

Men's 5000m Conseslus Kipruto won his heat in 13:47.5,  Emmanuel Kipsang was fastest in his heat with a time of 13:53.8. Nixon Chepseba took down other 5000m in 14:29.0, while Mathew Kimeli won the last men's 5000m heat in 13:55.0
