• Men's 1500m in Doha Diamond League will be hot; 5 sub 3:30 runners are set to clash

The organizers of this year's Doha Diamond League meet has brought together a stellar field in men's 1500m with five runners who have recorded personal bests below 3:30.


Asbel Kiprop of Kenya,  the the reigning 1500m world champion, produced the 3rd fastest time in history of 3:26.69, while his compatriot the 23-year-old Elijah Motonei Manangoi clocked 3:29.67 in Monaco last year. 

Daegu world championships silver medalist Kenya's  Silas Kiplagat will also lign up in Doha. His personal best he set 2 years ago in 1500m of 3:27.64 sists in #5 position in all time lists.

Doha's men's 1500m line up will also see  Djibouti's 2014 world indoor champion  Ayanleh Suleiman PB of 3:29.58 and Ethiopia's Aman Wote PB 3:29.91 who was second at the 2014 World indoors. 

The Qatar's Athletics chief Dahlan Al Hamad also announced the field in the men's high jump and 400m with local stars  Mutaz Essa Barshim and 19-year-old 400m sensation Abdalelah Haroun will face strong.

Barshim will go against the Beijing world championships winner Derek Drouin of Canada, China's  Zhang Guowei, who was joint second in Beijing and Great Britain's Robbie Grabarz who shared bronze with Mutaz and Drouin in 2012 London Olympics. Also in the men's high jump line up will be former world champion Donald Thomas from Bahamas and Italy’s Marco Fassinotti who took 6th at this year's world indoors. 

 In the men's 400m Haroun will be challenged by the former Olympic and world champion American LaShawn Merritt. Other stars to race the 400m in Doha Isaac Makwala from Botswana (PB 43.72) the 2015  African champion and Asian record holder (43.93) Youssef Ahmed Masrahi from Saudi Arabia. 

Doha Diamond league meet is scheduled for Friday May 6.

The IAAF Doping Review Board has agreed that the applications of 42 Russian athletes have met the exceptional eligibility criteria to compete in international competition as neutral athletes in 2019 under competition Rule 22.1A(b) while the Russian national federation (RusAF) remains suspended.

Ethiopia’s Worknesh Alemu and Kenya’s Cosmas Lagat upset the formbook and produced outstanding performances in hot conditions to triumph at the Tata Mumbai Marathon on Sunday (20), winning at the IAAF Gold Label road race in 2:25:45 and 2:09:15 respectively. Both marks were the second fastest winning times in the history of the event, the pair taking first prize cheques of USD $45,000.

• Stefanidi opens season with huge 4.74m clearance in Reno

Current Olympic, World and European champion Ekaterini Stefanidi of Greece opened her 2019 indoor season with a massive 4.74m clearance at the World's biggest pole vault meet, the UCS Pole Vault Summit, in Reno, Nevada on Friday night. (Women's top 3 Stefanidi 4.74 m; Nageotte 4.74m, and Jacobus 4.66m). (Men top 3: Ludwig 5.71m, Yamamoto 5.71m, and Irwin 5.61m).

• Vivian Cheruiyot and Mary Keitany lead London Marathon women's elite field

The defending champion Vivian Cheruiyot and the current TCS New York City Marathon champion Mary Keitany return to the Virgin Money London Marathon in 2019. They join their compatriots Gladys Cherono (2018 Berlin Marathon champion) and Brigid Kosgei (2018 Chicago Marathon champion) meaning the winners of the last four Abbott World Marathon Majors will be on the Start Line in London on Sunday 28 April.
