• Simbine runs 9.96 to set new SA record

South African sprinter Akani Simbine ran a sensational 9.96 seconds in 100m in Pretoria to set a new National Record on Tuesday, March 8.
In the men's 100m final at the ASA Night Series #1 in the city of Pretoria the 22-year-old Simbine managed to under 10 seconds for the win. His winning time of 9.96 seconds was a big surprise for everyone as it was 0.01 seconds faster than his own national 100m record he set last year.
The second place in the men's 100 m final took Emile Rasmus in 10.22, while third place finisher Thando Roto clocked 10.29 seconds.
The city of Pretoria lays at a low altitude of around 1,339 m (4,393 ft).
