17-year-old Finn Runs 2:33 Marathon

Alisa Vainio, a 17-year-old runner from Finland, ran her first-ever marathon posting a shocking time of 2 hours and 33 minutes and 24 seconds.


On Sunday at Joutseno marathon in Lappeenranta, Finland,  Vainio produced a mind-boggling time of 2.33.24 which is the sixth best time in Finnish history and would also qualify her for 2016 Rio Olympics if she wasn't too young.

The qualifying time for the 2016 Rio Olympics is 2:42.00 however due to IAAF regulations male of female athletes must be born on or before 1996 to qualify for the marathon. 

Vainio this summer took bronze at the European Junior Championships in the 3000m steeple chase. She also won finish 10000m championships with a time of 32:58.17.

“I guess I needed to blow off some steam after my matriculation exams,” she on Twitter after the conclusion of her first marathon.
