Jeptoo Defends Chicago Mararhon Title and Wins Fourth Straight World Marathon Majors

In nearly perfect weather conditions, the pre-race favorite Kenyan Rita Jeptoo won the Chicago marathon becoming the first women in history to win four World marathon Majors in a row.

 

Jeptoo to the finish to win the race with a time of 2:24.35 ahead of compatriot Jemima Sumgong Jelegat, who took second place with a time of  2:25.37.

Russia's Maria Konovalova took a surprising third place clocking 2:25.57. 

The 33-year-old Yeptoo won Boston marathon in 2013 and 2014 and as well she took last year's Chicago marathon title. With today's win Jeptoo secured her fourth straight World Marathon Majors title and a prize money of $500,000. Jeptoo will also cash in additional $100,000 for the win.
