Bailey Cole Defeats Powell in Zagreb

Running in rainy conditions, Kemar Bailey-Cole edged former world record holder Asafa Powell to win the 100m at the IAAF World Challnge meet in Zagreb on Tuesday September 2.

 

Both Jamaicans clocked 10.07 seconds, but the photo-finish  proved that the 22-year Bailey Cole was ahead of Powell. The third place took USA's Micheal Rodgers, who clocked 10.10 seconds, while this years surprise Great Britain's Chijindu Ujah took fourth in 10.26 seconds.

 In another sprint contest, Myriam Soumare of France defeated USA's Janna Atkins to win the women's 200m in 22.75 seconds.

World 800m bronze medalist Brenda Martinez with a strong finishing kick won the1500m race in 4:05.89, The men's 800m win went to Ferguson Cheruiyot of Kenya who stopped the clock at 1:45.69.

Zurich European Championships gold medalist Martin Rooney of Great Britain clocked 45,49 to win the 400m A race.

In the women's high jump Croatia's Ana Simic defeated compatriot Blanka Vlasic and Poland's Kamila Licwinko for the win. All three athletes jumped 1.93m, but the win went to Simic as she used less attempts to clear the winning height. 

Former world champion Tero Ptkamakki of Finland prevailed in the Javelin contest with a tossing  84.72 meters.
