World 1500m Champion Asbel Kiprop of Kenya is planning to do great things this season with one specific goal to break the 1500m world record of  3:26.00 at the Monaco Diamond League meeting in Monaco on July 18.

Kiprop set his personal best of  3:27.72 at the Diamond meeting in Monaco last year. The time is the 4th fastest time in history, only Hicham El Guerrouj (WR 3:26.00), Bernard Lagat (3:26.34) and Noureddine Morceli (3:27.37) have ran the 1500m faster than Kiprop.

“I wasn’t prepared to run that far that night. I can only imagine. What if I did prepare? What if I took it on? I could get something under 3:26." Said Kiprop.

“I imagine I’ll run my fastest in Monaco. I’ve set my two personal bests there and it’s ideal there.” The 2008 Olympic champion added.

“Everything is in order after I ran 1:45.3 in 800m at the Relay Series,” he said.

“My other plan is to race at the World Cup hence I must compete at the Africa event since that is where the African team will be selected,” Kiprop said.  He also  revealed that his is planning to skip the Commonwealth Games. “Commonwealth games and Africa Championships are too close."

Asbel Kiprop is planning to open his season on May 9 at the Diamond League meeting in Doha.
