18 Year Old Mekonen Rus 2:04.32 in Dubai Marathon

The 18 year-old Mekonnen Asefa, Tsegaye of Ethiopia produced surprised everyone when he won Dubai Marathon with a stunning time of 2h:04m:32s on Friday (24).

The Ethiopian youngster in his marathon debut broke the unofficial World Junior Record by 1 minute and 35 seconds and recorded the second fastest time ever seen in the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon.

Behind Tsegay in second and third place were another two Ethiopians who produced brilliant times: Markos Geneti and Girmay Birhanu finishing in 2:05:13 and 2:05:49 respectively.

The women's race continued Ethiopian dominance in Dubai as Mula Seboka beat favourites Meselech Melkamu and Meseret Hailu to cross the finish line in 2:25:01. Melkamu took second place with 2:25:23 with Firehiwot Dado in third with 2:25:53.

Both winners from the men's and women's races took home 200,000USD prize money.
