The best male athlete of the year award went to two-time Olympic champion Mo Farah, a Somali-born UK long-distance runner who won the men's 5,000 m and 10,000 m events at the world championships in Moscow.

Earlier this year, Isinbayeva was also named Russia's Athlete of the Year in a nationwide poll conducted by sports journalists.
