Kipchumba and Dibaba Win Xiamen Marathon

Kenya's Mariko Kiplagat Kipchumba and Mare Dibaba of Ethiopia won the Xiamen International Marathon, an IAAF gold Lable road race on Thursday, January 2.
The Men´s race winner, Kipchumba, clocked a new course record of 2 hours 21 minutes 37 seconds with compatriot Julius Muriuki Wahome in second 2:09:28.The perfect Kenyan sweep spoiled Ethiopia´s Dereje Debele Tulu who took the final spot on the podium with a time of 2:09:35.
The women´s race also saw a new course record as the Ethiopian women swept the podium. The 24 year old Mare Dibaba won the race in 2 hours 21 minutes 37 seconds and set a new record. Meseret Legesse took second clocking
2:26:36 while Bedada Emebet Etea concluded the podium with a time of
2:33:51.
Both winner went home also with a total $ 50,000 prize money. The Award money for
the marathon winners was US $40,000,plus the
awards of 10,000 USD to male runners who finished the race between
2:07:32- 2:08:30 and female runners who completed the race between 2:22:38 -
2:23:30.
