World decathlon record holder and Olympic champion Ashton Eaton is going to test himself in the 400m hurdle distance in 2014 season.

Since there is no major championships next year Eaton can afford to have some fun in the event that is not part of the decathlon.

Eatons coach Harry Marra knows very well how to coach multi events and he wants to train Eaton in the 400m hurdles to improve´particularly his 400m and 1500m times. In fact, the 400m hurdle race is known as one of the most painful track events.

"He can train like a good 'ol track athlete, "(Ashton) brought it up to be before I brought it up to him. He likes to run the quarter. He's a good hurdler. It makes sense from the standpoint of training as a 400 hurdler in order to make him better at the 400 meters and the 1,500 meters." Said coach Marra to website Runnerspace.com.

Eatons personal bests in the 110m hurdles is 13.35 seconds and the 400m in 45.64. With no doubts Eaton is going for more than an average time in the new event so something like 48.00 we could expect from the athlete. With his 400m time he would have made the final at Moscow´s World Championships.

Before turning to 400m racing for the 2014 outdoor seaon Eaton has plans to compete in March at the world indoor championships in Poland.
