• Kipsang Sets New Marathon World Record

 Kenyan  distance running star Wilson Kipsang broke the world marathon record on Sunday (29) at the 2013 Berlin Marathon. Kipsang crossed the finish line in 2:03:23 beating the record by 15 seconds.

"I think in the last few kilometres I had the feeling it was on and I was feeling strong," said Kipsang.

"My plan was to really push in the last few kilometres, I knew it would be a fight.

"I just wanted to make sure we had a good pace at the start and I knew the record was beatable.

"It was my first time racing here, it's a really nice course and a great city. I love it here!"

Previous world record belong to Kipsangs compatriot Patrick Makau who set it 2 years ago on the same coarse.

Eliud Choge (KEN) the former Olympic chamapion in 5000m took second with new personal best of  2:04:05 with another Kenyan Geoffrey Kipsang in 3rd 2:06:26.

In the women's race the Florence Kiplagat of Kenya won the Berlin marathon for the 2nd time in her career as she clocked 2:21:13 to win the race. Kiplagat won the Berlin marathon 2 years ago when she posted (2:19:44)

Kiplagats compatriot Sharon Cherop took 2nd 2:22:28. Germany's Irina Mikitenko breaking the words masters marathon record took 3rd in 2:24:54.
