Merrit Dominates 400m in Stockholm

World Champion LaShawn Merritt won the men's 400 metres at the DN Galan Diamond League meet. Merrit clocked 44.69 beating Luguelin Santos of the Dominican Republic.

Defending world champion was more than a half second ahead of Santos and a third place finisher Pavel Maslak of the Czech Republic.

"I still feel like I'm in top form," Merritt said after the race.

 Svetlana Shkolina of Russia won the women's high jump at 1.98 metres, defeating countrywomen Anna Chicherova and Mariya Kuchina who finnished  second and third respectively.

Kerron Stewart of Jamaica took a victory in the women's 100 m. Stewart stopped the clock at 11.24sec  beating Alexandria Anderson of USA buy only 0.01 seconds. Anderson's compatriot Barbara Pierre took third in 11.29.

Zuzana Hejnova of the Czech Republic setting a new stadium record won the women's 400 hurdles in 53.70 ahead of Jamaica's Kaliese Spencer and Dalilah Muhammad of the United States.

Four-time world champion Valerie Adams of New Zealand won the women's shot put with a toss of 20.30 metres, breaking her own stadium record.  Russia's Mariya Abakumova set a new stadium record in the women's javelin, throwing 68.59 metres.

Hejnova, Adams and Abakumova recieved a one-carat diamond for setting stadium records at Stockholm's Olympic Stadium. These diamondds were used for the 1912 Summer Olympic Games.

  Ayanleh Souleiman of Djibouti won the men's 1 500 metres in 3 minutes, 33.59 seconds, ahead of Silas Kiplagat and Nixon Kiplimo Chepseba of Kenya. Their countryman, world champion Asbel Kiprop, finished sixth.
