Wolfe and Kelati lead champions at USATF Cross Country Championships in Portland

Posted by: Watch Athletics

The 2025 USATF Cross Country Championships delivered high-quality racing across all categories on Saturday (December 6) at Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Oregon, with national titles decided and Team USA selections on the line for next month’s World Athletics Cross Country Championships on home soil in Tallahassee, Florida.

In the senior men’s 10 km race, Parker Wolfe claimed his first national cross country title after producing a decisive late surge, stopping the clock in 29:16. Wolfe overhauled early leader Rocky Hansen, who held on for second place, as a tightly packed lead group battled over the challenging, undulating course.

The women’s 10 km race was won by Weini Kelati Frezghi, who underlined her strength and consistency with a commanding performance to take the title in 33:46. Kelati asserted control in the latter stages to secure victory ahead of Katie Izzo and Ednah Kurgat, rounding out a strong women’s podium.

The championships also featured junior (U20) races, where emerging talents made their mark. Aidan Torres won the U20 men’s 8 km title in 25:11, while Victoria Garces topped the U20 women’s 6 km race, claiming victory in 21:07 after opening a clear gap in the closing kilometers.

Beyond national titles, the stakes were especially high as the top six finishers (1–6) in each senior race earned automatic selection for Team USA at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships, which will take place next month in Tallahassee, Florida. With the global event being staged on U.S. soil, the Portland championships served as a pivotal moment in finalizing the American squad.

With deep fields, decisive racing, and world championship berths secured, the 2025 USATF Cross Country Championships provided a fitting prelude to what promises to be a memorable global showdown in Tallahassee.
