The 2025 Rotterdam Marathon delivered thrilling performances and blistering times on Sunday, April 13, as Kenya’s Geoffrey Kamworor and Jackline Cherono emerged victorious in tightly contested races. With deep elite fields, strategic pacing, and a trademark fast course, Rotterdam once again cemented its place among the world’s premier marathons.
Kenya's Geoffrey Kamworor, the three-time world half marathon champion, stormed to victory in the men’s race, clocking 2:04:33—just ten seconds shy of his personal best. From the outset, the race featured a tightly packed lead group, including Kamworor and Ethiopian contenders Chala Regasa and Chimdessa Debele. The trio ran stride-for-stride through the early stages, maintaining a steady rhythm until the 30-kilometer mark. It was there that Kamworor made his decisive move, surging ahead and opening a gap he would never relinquish. Regasa and Debele fought hard to stay close but ultimately had to settle for second and third with times of 2:05:07 and 2:05:26, respectively.
In the women’s race, Jackline Cherono led a similarly dramatic battle, taking the win in 2:21:16. The Kenyan held off a formidable Ethiopian duo, Aminet Ahmed and Azmera Gebru, in a nail-biting finish. Ahmed crossed the line in 2:22:15, followed just two seconds later by Gebru in 2:22:17, capping off one of the most competitive women’s fields in recent years.
This year’s Rotterdam Marathon once again showcased its pedigree as a course built for speed and drama. An impressive 14 men broke the 2:10 barrier, while 12 women dipped under the 2:30 mark—proof of the event’s relentless pace and depth of international talent.
