The TCS Sydney Marathon, a World Athletics Platinum Label road race, is set to host a remarkable lineup of elite athletes on Sunday, including Ethiopia’s 2022 world champion Gotytom Gebreslase and Leul Gebresilase, the 2023 world bronze medallist.

Gotytom Gebreslase has distinguished herself as one of the premier marathon runners globally, with a portfolio that includes a gold medal from Oregon and a silver from Budapest. Her personal best of 2:18:11, achieved in Oregon, marks her as a formidable competitor. The 29-year-old has also triumphed at the Berlin Marathon in 2021 and secured top-three finishes in New York and Tokyo in 2022.

However, Gebreslase will face stiff competition from a strong field, including Tadu Teshome, also from Ethiopia, who boasts a personal best of 2:17:36 from Valencia 2022. Teshome's consistent performance in major marathons, including top-eight finishes in Chicago, Shanghai, and London in 2023, makes her a key contender.

The race will also feature Ruti Aga, who won the Tokyo Marathon in 2019 and recently placed second in Dubai, and Buzunesh Getachew, who has a personal best of 2:19:27 from Frankfurt. Kenya’s Judith Jeptum Korir, a silver medallist behind Gebreslase at the Oregon World Championships, is another top contender.

On the men’s side, Leul Gebresilase leads with a personal best of 2:04:02 set in Dubai. The field includes other sub-2:05 performers like Chalu Deso and Brimin Kipkorir Misoi, adding depth to an already competitive roster.

This gathering of elite talent in Sydney promises to be a thrilling event, showcasing some of the best long-distance runners in the world as they vie for victory in one of Australia’s most prestigious road races.
