World-Class Athletes Aim for Career Milestones at 41st Mainova Frankfurt Marathon

A cohort of world-class athletes seeks to reinvigorate their careers at the 41st Mainova Frankfurt Marathon, renowned for its swift course. Prominent among these athletes is Ethiopia's Herpasa Negasa, who marked his presence as the eighth fastest runner at the 2019 Dubai Marathon, alongside Kenya's 2009 World 10,000m champion Linet Masai. Scheduled for October 27, this World Athletics Elite Label Road Race anticipates over 25,000 participants, including around 12,000 marathon competitors. Race Director Jo Schindler expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event, noting, "We are excited about the potential for unexpected performances, especially after recording the fastest combined winning time in our event's history last year."

Herpasa Negasa, who notched a significant 2:03:40 time as runner-up in Dubai, is a major contender. Trained in Addis Ababa by Gemedu Dedefo alongside notable athletes like Olympic Champion Tamirat Tola and Boston winner Sisay Lemma, Negasa aims to replicate or exceed his past achievements.

Eric Kiptanui, another top contender, burst onto the scene as one of the quickest half marathon runners in 2018, setting a still-standing course record of 58:42 in Berlin. After a subdued year, the 34-year-old seeks redemption in Frankfurt.

Linet Masai, eyeing one of her final opportunities for a marathon breakthrough, has a storied history including a 2009 10,000m World Championship and a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics. Despite her 2:23:46 debut in Amsterdam, she has yet to surpass this time and is hopeful for a new personal best in Frankfurt.

Tigist Abayechew, another favorite, returns after an injury hiatus. She achieved a personal best of 2:18:03 placing third two years prior and finished ninth in Tokyo this March. Abayechew aspires to claim victory at Frankfurt’s indoor finish line at the Festhalle.
