Parker Valby Smashes U.S. Collegiate 10000m Record with 30:50.43

Parker Valby from the University of Florida set a new U.S. collegiate record in her first 10,000-meter race at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California.

The University of Florida athlete completed 25 laps in 30:50.43, surpassing the previous record of 31:18.07 set by Lisa Koll in 2010 by nearly 28 seconds. Since 2013, no collegiate runner had come within 19 seconds of Koll’s record.

Valby recorded splits of 15:30 and 15:20, a noteworthy feat considering her personal best in the 5000 meters is 15:20.10, which she achieved last year to win the NCAA title in Austin.

Valby has entered an exclusive circle, becoming the 13th American woman to complete the 10,000m in under 31 minutes. Her time places her at No. 11 on the all-time U.S. list and ranks as the fifth fastest globally in 2024.

This record-breaking performance follows her success at last month's NCAA Indoor Championships, where she won both the 3000m and 5000m events.
