Kimtai and Genaneh Triumph at 51st Stramilano Half Marathon
Antony Kimtai of Kenya and Anchinalu Dessie Genaneh from Ethiopia emerged victorious in the men's and women's categories, respectively, at the 51st Stramilano Half Marathon, held under clear skies in Milan.
The early pace was set by a lead pack including Vincent Kimutai Towett, Felix Korir Kiptarus, Bernard Wambua, Antony Kimtai, Gideon Kimutai Kiplimo, and Simon Mwangi Waithira, hitting the 5 km mark at 13:45 and the 10 km at 29:10. By the 15 km checkpoint, timed at 42:58, the race contenders had narrowed to Mwangi Waithira, Kimutai Towett, Korir Kiptarus, Wambua, and Kimtai.
In a thrilling final stretch, Kimtai broke away to win with a time of 1:00:31, narrowly edging out Kimutai Towett, who took second place in 1:00:41, just ahead of Simon Mwangi Wambua. This victory marked Kimtai's first half marathon win, following his personal best of 59:45 set at the Napoli City Half Marathon.
In the women's race, Genaneh and Kenya's Morine Gesare Michira led early, reaching 5 km in 15:27 and 10 km in 32:36, with Croatia's Matea Parlov Kostro trailing. Genaneh pulled ahead in the last 5 km to finish in 1:07:55, securing her first Stramilano win after finishing third the previous year with a personal best of 1:07:30. Michira came in second with a time of 1:18:13, improving upon her previous year's performance, and Parlov Kostro finished third in 1:11:14, with Italy's Elisa Palmero in fourth at her half marathon debut.
