Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke the 26-year-old world two-mile record at the Paris meeting, the 4th leg of the 2023 Diamond League series.

The Olympic 1500m champion ran 3,218m in 7:54.10, the second fastest time for the distance in history.

At the Meeting de Paris athletics meet in Paris, France, on Friday (9 June), the Norwegian became just the second person to run the 3,218 meters under eight minutes.

Ingebrigtsen finished the rarely-run race in 7 minutes 54.10 seconds, taking four and a half seconds off Kenya's Daniel Komen's previous world record time.

Since July 1997, the only person to run the distance in under eight minutes was Komen, who ran 7:58.61.

The race was dominated by Ingebrigtsen, with Kenya's Ishmael Kipkurui placing second in 8:09.23 and Ethiopia's Kuma Girma placing third in 8:10.34.
