Eilish McColgan and Alicia Monson broke British and American 10000m records on Saturday in California.

McColgan broke Paula Radcliffe's British 10,000m record on Saturday night in Southern California at the Sound Running Ten meeting. The 32-year-old Scottish runner broke the tape at 30:00.86, narrowly beating Paula Radcliffe's time of 30:01.09 back in 2022 in Munich.

McColgan, the Commonwealth Games champion at 10,000, who is preparing for next month's London marathon at an altitude in Colorado, decided to enter the meet just a few days ago.

"I'm absolutely buzzing," McColgan said. "Two years ago, I ran a big PB here, so it's nice to be back with the crowds. I knew I was in excellent shape, but to have it all come together on the day doesn't always happen."

Just A few seconds behind McColgan, Alicia Monson set her second American record this year, by running 30:03.82 to beat the previous record of 30:13.17 set by Molly Huddle in the 2016 Olympic final in Rio. At the Millrose Games last month, Monson clocked 8:25.05 to break the American indoor 3000m.
