Reigning Olympic Champion over 100m and 4x100m Marcell Jacobs took a fine victory on his outdoor season debut at the Meeting International Citta' Di Savona 2022, a World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger, on Wednesday, May 18.

Jacobs ran his first 100m since winning the Olympic final last August in Tokyo. It was also his first outdoor appearance this year after prevailing in the 60m dash at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in March in Belgrade.

The 27-year-old Jacobs clocked 9.99 seconds with a slight tailwind of 2.2m/s to set the fastest time in the 100m preliminary round. In the 100m final, he managed to recover from a slow start to win the race in 10.04 seconds (w+0.3m/s). Arthur Cisse' from Ivory Coast, who produced a blazing start, was second with a season's best time of 10.10 seconds, while Frenchman Jimmy Vicat took third in 10.12 seconds.

“I struggled a bit, I thought I would run better than in the semifinal. I’m lacking a bit that spark, I thought this week without training would help, but this is the first race of the year, there’s time before the worlds.” Jacobs told Rai Sports.

The women's 100m final took Zaynab Dosso, who set a new meeting record with 11.21 seconds (W+0.9m/s). Switzerland's Geraldine Frey ran a new PB of 11.31 seconds for seconds, with Vittoria Fontana (ITA) in third with 11.34 seconds.
