World Champion Nakaayi sets 800m World Lead in Val De Reuil

On Monday night, Uganda's Halimah Nakaayi successfully continued her 2022 campaign with a new 800m indoor World lead. The 36-year-old Michael Rodgers was victorious in the men's 60m dash final at the Meeting de l'Eure Val De Reuil, a World Athletics Indoor tour silver level event.

With a dominant run, the reigning World outdoor champion Nakaayi slashed almost two seconds from her indoor personal best to win the women's 800m in 1:59.55, the fastest time in the world indoors this season. Ethiopia's 20-year-old Tigist Grima finished in a distant second place with a time of 2:01.68, while 2019 World championships 800m finalist Winnie Nanyondo of Uganda was third with 2:02.14.

In the sprint events action, the 36-year-old Michael Rodgers from the United States scored his first international victory this year by winning 60m with 6.64 seconds.

In the women's 60m, USA's Kayla White took her second victory with 7.13 seconds. White won the 60m dash two days earlier at the International Meeting in Metz.

Jarret Eaton (USA), the World indoor championships silver medalist, edged the World 110m hurdles bronze medalist Pascal Martinot-Lagarde by only 0.01 seconds to win the 60m hurdles final in 7.51 seconds.

Elsewhere, Slovenia's Tina Sutej cleared her season's best of 4.70m to win the women's pole vault. 

Frenchman Loic Gasch cleared 2.25m for the men's high jump win.

Ayal Dagnachew took the women's 3000m in 8:41.32, finishing just ahead of Italy's emerging distance running star Nadia Battocletti (8:41.72) and her compatriot Worku Getachew (8:41.95).
