Kenya’s Titus Ekiru and Ethiopia’s Hiwot Gebrekidan produced outstanding marathon world-leads of 2:02:57 and 2:19:35 at the Generali Milano Marathon on Sunday, April (16).

Ekiru, who won the Milano marathon in 2019 (2:04:46), finished almost one minute ahead of his compatriot Reuben Kipyego (2:03:55) to set the Italian all-comers record. The men's podium concluded another Kenyan runner Barnabas Kiptum with 2:04:17. The first eight men finished inside 2:06 making it one of the deepest marathons staged in Italy.

The women's marathon race winner Gebrekidan shaved more than 4 minutes from her previous personal to win the race in a 2:19:35, the first sub-2-hour marathon this year. Racheal Jemutai Mutgaa of Kenya claimed second place with 2:22:50 while former Kenyan Eunice Chumba, who competes now for Bahrein took third place with 2:23:10. The top seven women finished the Milano marathon within 2 hours and 25 minutes.
