Bryce Hoppel runs 1:44.37 for the 800m, misses American record by 0.15

Rising 800m stars, Bryce Hoppel, produced the highlight by clocking the 2nd fastest 800m in the US history at the American Track League indoor series in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Sunday, Jan 31.

The 23-year-old Hoppel clocked 25.80 in the last lap to destroy the field and to win the 800m race in 1:44.37, only 0.15 from Donavan Brazier’s American indoor record. Hoppel also moved to No.6 on the all-time list. Great Britain’s Charlie Grice took second in 1:45.62, missing his all-time personal best by 0.09 second while American Erik Sowinski improved his indoor personal best by almost one second with 1:45.69 to take the third place.

World champion and American record holder over 800m Donavan Brazier was a late scratch after he had near contact with someone who had tested positive for COVID-19.

Elsewhere, Bahama's World champion, Shaunae Miller-Uibo won the 200m in a storming World leading time of 22.40 to move to No.6 all-time.

World record holder Ryan Crouser produced the third-best throw ever indoors of 22.66m to win the shot put.

Sandi Morris won the pole vault with a World leading clearance of 4.81m.
