Mao Ichiyama won the 2021 Osaka International women's marathon breaking the event recod with 2:21:11.
The 23-year-old’s shaved seven seconds from the old record of 2:21:18 set by Mizuki Noguchi back in 2003. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s race took place over a 14 plus lap 2.8km loop course in Nagai Park around Nagai stadium with the finish inside the stadium.
The second place took Honami Maeda who clocked a new personal best of 2:23:30 while Yukari Abe concluded the podium with 2:24:4, also a PB.
