World half marathon bronze medalistsYalemzerf Yehualaw and Amedework Walelegn produced impressive course records at the 2020 Airtel Delhi Half Marathon on Sunday (29).
The 21-year Yehualaw clocked an amazing 64:46, the second-fastest women’s time ever in the half marathon, for the win.
Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya was in a distant 3rd place in 1:05:06 3 while the two-time defending champion Ababel Yeshaneh of Ethiopia with 1:05:21 concluded the podium.
Yehualaw took home a $US27,000 winners prize and an additional $10,000 as a bonus for breaking the course record.
Walelegn won the men's race in a new event record time of 58:52. The 21 years old Ethiopian, defeated his compatriot the two-time defending champion Andamlak Belihu (58:54) and Stephen Kissa of Uganda (58:56).
Total of eight men wen under the 60-minute barrier at the Delhi half-marathon making it one of the fastest men's races in history.
The 10th place finisher Avinash Sable shaved three and a half minutes from his personal best to clock a new Indian record with an amazing 1:00:30.
