1500m World Champion Elijah Manangoi handed two year doping ban

Former world 1500m world champion Elijah Manangoi of Kenya has been banned for two years for whereabouts failures, a violation of World Athletics anti-doping rules.

The Athletics integrity unit said that Manangoi missed or did not make himself available to three out of competition drugs tests. His ban is backdated to 22 December 2019.

At the 2015 world championships Manangoi took 1500m silver. Two years later in London, he won the 1500m World title.

Under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules, 3 whereabouts failures (Filing Failure and/or Missed Test) within a period of 12 months constitute an anti-doping rule violation, for which the applicable sanction is 2 years' ineligibility.
