World Athletics Includes 5km to Road Running Championships

The track and field/athletics governing body (World Athletics) added the 5km to its Road Running World Championships schedule.

The Road Running Championships will include the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships, and the World 5km championships as a new event. World Athletics says other events such us such as a road mile could be included in the future.

This is great news for sports fans that can now have greater avenues of fun and entertainment. As for more active sporting enthusiasts, they will now find more uses to their Bet365 bonus, even though it already gives a much wider selection of events to bet on. However, for all sports punters, it is very important that they keep in mind all the terms and conditions established by the operator before they register which is very simple and easy. As an example, all customers must be over 18 years of age and of legal capacity to place a bet.

Public mass races will be held alongside the elite championships.

The first Road Running Championships series with half-marathon and 5km will take place in 2023.

“Road running has become an increasingly significant part of our sport over the past 20 years and it deserves greater recognition within our World Athletics Series events.”

“The growth in popularity of half marathons, including our own world championships, as well as community 5km events like Parkrun, indicates that there is a need for more high status road racing events. We also think this will be a commercially desirable concept for host cities, partners and broadcasters.

“With the establishment of the World Athletics Road Running Championships, the whole global community of recreational runners, which numbers in the millions, will be able to come together to celebrate their passion for putting foot to the road,”  World Athletics CEO Jon Ridgeon said.
