Klosterhalfen Sets new European 5000m Indoor Record with 14:30.79 in Boston

Germany's Konstanze Klosterhalfen clocked a new European 5000m indoor record at the Boston University Last Chance Invitational on Thursday (27).

The World 5000m bronze medallist from last year in Doha, clocked a stunning 14:30.79, the fourth fastest indoor 5000m performance of all-time to break the European indoor record. Klosterhalfen shaved 17 seconds off from Romanian Gabriela Szabo’s European Record of 14:47.35.
 
Vanessa Fraser of the United States was miles away in second in 14:48.51 with Emily Infeld (USA) in third in 14:51.91, both athletes set their personal best in the event.
 
Only Ethiopians trio of Genzebe Dibaba (14:18.86), Meseret Defar (14:24.37) and Tirunesh Dibaba (14:27.42) have run faster indoors for 5000m than Klosterhalfen.
 
In the women's 3000m race Karissa Schweizer, a 5000m finalist in Doha World Championships, broke the American record with 8:25.70, the eighth fastest indoor 3000m in histrory.
