Ethiopia's Olika Adugna Bikila took a surprise win at the 2020 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon on Friday morning.

Bikila with a very late surge claimed the win in Dubai in his marathon debut with a time of 2:06.15.

Another marathon debutant Eric Kiptanui of Kenya cruised home to take second place in 2:06:17 as total of 11 men in Dubai ran the marathon inside 2:07 mark which is the most ever in a single marathon.

Bikila's career highlight prior to Dubai was 5th place finish in the 10000m at the 2018 World Under 20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.

For the win the 20-year-old Bikila was awarded $100000USD prize.

In the women's race, Worknesh Degefa of Ethiopia, who finished second last year emerged the winner with a time of 2:19:37. Her compatriot, Guteni Shone, took second place in 2:20.11.
