In 2017 Degefa made headlines by winning Dubai on her marathon debut with 2:22:36. The following year, the 29-year-old shaved almost three minutes off from her lifetime best to take fourth place in a stunning 2:19:53. In 2019 Degefa stunned again by claiming second place in Dubai with 2:17:41 breaking the Ethiopian record by 15 seconds.
25-year-old Deksisa with PB of 2.04.40 and Tura with 2.04.44 PB are the fastest runners in a stunning men's elite field which includes 11 elite athletes with personal best times under 2 hours and 8 minutes. The Ethiopian men have dominated in Dubai since 2012.
Dubai men's course record stands at 2:03:34 and is the 16th-fastest marathon time in history while the women's course record of 2:17:08 set last year by Kenya's Ruth Chepngetich is the fourth-fastest marathon time in history among women.
