Former Marathon World Record Holder Wilson Kipsang Provisionally Suspended

Kenya's former World marathon record holder Wilson Kipsang has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for doping.

The AIU charged Kipsang for whereabouts failures and tampering samples.

Under WADA anti-doping rules, athletes have to inform testing agents of their whereabouts for a one hour window of every day.

Three whereabouts failures in one year - not being present at the said time, or ssubmitting inaccurate information, counts as one failure - leads to an automatic ban from sports.

In 2013 Kipsang set a marathon World record of 2:03:23 at the BMW Berlin Marathon. In 2016 he set the 6th fastest marathon time in the history of 2:03:13. He is the only man to beat the curent World marathon record holder, Eliud Kipchoge, in the marathon.
