Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha smashed the World indoor mile record at the Bruce Lehane Invitational Mile on Sunday, March 3 in Boston.

Kejelcha in his second World record attempt crossed the finish line in an astonishing time of 3:47.02 shaving 1.44 seconds from Hicham El Guerrouj's record.

Kejelcha's 1500m split was confirmed at 3:31.25, making him the third-fastest indoor performer in history behind Samuel Tefera and El Guerrouj.

The 21-year-old Ethiopian missed the World mile record mark from 1997 by just one-hundredth of a second at the Millrose Games in New York earlier this year. One week later in Birmingham, he was beaten to the world indoor 1500m record by countryman Tefera who won the race in 3:31.04.

Another outstanding performance came from Johnny Gregorek who crushed the 3:50 barrier for the first time with 3:49.98 to take second place. Gregorek's time is the sixth fastest on the world indoor all-time list and 0.09 seconds short of Bernard Lagat's American record.
