This Weekend's Top Cross and Road Races to Follow

There are a few exciting marathons and cross country races that you can follow this weekend.

Roy Griak Invitational |

In the United States, University of Minnesota will host the 33rd annual Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29.  Roy Griak is one of the largest and one of the most prestigious cross country races in the country. This years event will have six collegiate races and four high school races.

Here is how you can follow this event:

TCS Lidingoloppet

The European 2018/2019 international cross country season will kick off with the famous TCS Lidingoloppet cross country race in Sweden on Saturday, 29 September. The race organizers are estimating that 40,000 runners will participate in this event with around half that number in the classic 30km event.

Hengshui Lake International Marathon

On Saturday, an IAAF silver label marathon takes place in Chineeze city of Hengshui. The Hengshui Lake International Marathon organizers have gathered a World class group of men's elite runners with Lemi Berhanu, the former Boston marathon winner of Ethiopia leading a field of five sub-2:10. 

The women's field has seven women with personal best times under 2 hours and 30 minutes. Past winner Meseret Legese of Ethiopia with a PB of 2:25:43 is among the favorites. Another high-class athlete is Kenya’s Caroline Kilel, a two-time Frankfurt and 2011 Boston marathon winner.  Kilel's personal best is 2:22:34 from 2013 when she claimed Frankfurt title for the second time. Workenesh Edessa of Ethiopia is another sub-2:25 marathoner that will definitely be in the mix for the 2018 Hengshui Lake International Marathon title.

PZU Warsaw Marathon

Also on  Sunday the PZU Warsaw Marathon, an IAAF bronze level road race, will be staged for the 40th time. This road race is the largest in the country as more than 30,000 runners are expected to participate in the event.
