Shalane Flanagan Wins New York City Marathon

Shalane Flanagan of the United States took the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon crown on Sunday, November 5.

The 36-year-old Flanagan crossed the line in 2:26:53 beating the 3-time defending New York Marathon champion and women´s only marathon world record holder, Mary Keitany of Kenya, by nearly one minute.

The women´s podium conluded Ethiopian runner Mamitu Daska who finished after 2:28:08.

Shalane Flanagan became the first American women since 1977 to win the NYC Marathon.

“I’ve dreamed of a moment like this since I was a little girl. It means a lot to me, to my family, and hopefully inspires the next generation of American women to be patient. It took me seven years to do this so a lot of work went into this moment.” Flanagan Said.
