Kenya's Lawrence Cherono won the 2017 Amsterdam marathon, an IAAF gold label road race, in a new course record time on Sunday, October 15.

Amsterdam proved once again that it holds one of the fastest marathon courses in the world as several crushed the 2:06 barrier.

In a thriller finish the 29-year-old Cherono defeated his countryman Norbert Kigen by one second to win the 2017 Amsterdam marathon in a new course record time of 2:05:09. Cherono shaved 11 seconds from previous course record and also 1 minute and 12 seconds from his own personal best time.

The men's marathon podium concluded another Kenyan athlete Abraham Kiptum with 2:05:26 as Ethiopia's Mule Wasihun crossed the line in 4th place in 2:05:39.

Meanwhile the women's race won Ethiopia's Tadelech Bekele who set a massive personal best time of 2 hours 21 minutes and 55 seconds. Gladys Chesir of Kenya claimed the second place with 2;24:48 while Ethiopian runner Azmera Abreha finished in 3rd in 2:25:31.
