Makwala, the fastest 200m runner this year, missed Monday's 200m heats and Wednesday's 400m final after IAAF officials barred him from competition. The IAAF medical officials believed Makwala was sick with norovirus.
On Wednesday IAAF allowed Makwala to run the 200m solo time trial. In order to qualify for the 200m final he needed to run 20.53 seconds.
The 30-year-old Makwala clocked 20.20 seconds despite running under heavy rain and on lane one. The unprecedented event took place after all the action of day 6 at World championships was over.
What a day for Isaac #Makwala. Thank you to the @iaaforg for allowing Isaac to race today. Sports how it was meant to be. #London2017 pic.twitter.com/qD5TbvTPLl
