Article source: Athletics

Wayde Van Niekerk who sensationally broke the world 400m record with 43.03 seconds to win Olympic gold in Rio will compete at the Lausanne Diamond League on Thursday, June 6.

Last Wednesday at the Ostrava Golden Spike Meet, the 24-year-old Van Niekerk sprinted to a new World 300m record in 30.81 seconds bettering Michael Johnson's old world record by 0.04 seconds.

The South African earlier this year established a new world leading mark of 19.84sec in the 200m and clocked a new personal record of 9.94sec in the 100m which is #6 in 2017 rankings.

The 24-year-old South African is also the first athlete in history to break 10sec for the 100m, 20sec for the 200m and 44sec for the 400m

Van Niekerk is in much better shape than a year ago and many beleive that soon he will become the first man in history to go sub 43 in the 400m.
