Fajdek triumphs with HT World Lead of 82.40m in Turku

The 2-time World champion Pawel Fajdek threw a massive world leading mark in the hammer throw during the 55th edition of Paavo Nurmi games in Turku, Finland on Monday, June 13.

In a packed athletics stadium in Turku,  the 28-year-old Pole threw  a new world leading 82.40m to win his third straight hammer throw trophy at Paavo Nurmi Games. 

There was also a world class competition in the men's javelin as seven men threw farther than 82 metres. The Olympic champion Thomas Rohler of Germany threw 88.26m in round  two to  beat his compatriot Johannes Vetter who managed 87.88m also in round two. The London 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago took third with 86.48m.

The women's javelin contest won the European Champion Tatsiana Khaladovich of Belarus who set a new stadium record with  65.03m. 

Cool temperatures did not stop Turkey's Ramil Guliyev set a new stadium record in the men's 100m dash. The 27-year-old European 200m silver medalist established new stadium record with 10.02 (1.5m/s) beating South Africa's Henricho Bruintjies into second (10.06). The 17-year-old Finnish sprinter, Samuel Purola, set a new U20 national record by placing seventh in 10.33.

 Another stadium record  was set in the women's 800m as Ukraine’s Olga Lyakhova clocked a 2:01.50 for the win. 

Morocco's  2017 world 1500m leader Sadik Mikhou  in a sprint finish took the 3000m race with 7:44.36. 

With an incredible finish Great Britain's Raba Yousif pulled off a victory in the men's 400m race in 45.81 seconds. 

The men's 110m hurdles won Frenchman Garfield Darien with 13.22 seconds, while Hanna Plotitsyna of Ukraine claimed the women's 100m hurdles with 13.08 seconds. 

In the men's pole vault, the world record holder Renaud Lavillenie cleared 5.81m to beat his younger brother Valentine (5.61m) into second place. 

World season leader (2.04m) Maria Lasitskene of Russia with 1.95m won the women's high jump contest. 

World and Olympic champion Caterine Ibarguen of Colombia prevailed in the women's triple jump with 13.97m in her final jump.
