Bartoletta leaps 7.12m at USA champs

Tianna Bartoletta produced the top performance on the third day of the 2015 USA track and field outdoor championships in Eugene on Saturday afternoon.


 
The 30-year-old Bartoletta, who is also a world famous sprinter, in her second attempt leaped to a new world leading mark of 7.12m (23-4½ ) beating Olympic and world champion Brittney Reese, who set her season's best mark of 6.97m. Janay DeLoach with a jump of 6.95m took third place and a spot on USA world championships team.  

On Friday night Tianna Bartoletta clocked an impressive 10.94 seconds to take 5th place in the women's 100m final.

David Verburg produced one of the biggest upsets of Saturday night's competition by defeating defending world champion LaShawn Merritt in the men's 400m final.
Well experienced  Verburg clocked season's best time of 44.63 seconds edging Merritt, who posted 44.66 seconds. Vernon Norwood took third place with a time of 44.80. Video>>

Women's 400m was won by  Allyson Felix clocking  50.19 with Natasha Hastings in second in 50.25 and Phyllis Francis third in 50.67. Video>>

Dawn Harper-Nelson beat the field in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 12.55 seconds. Second place in the race took Keni Harrison 12.56, while third place took Sharika Nelvis 12.59, who clocked world leading 13.34 on Friday night in prelims. Video>>

World silver medalist Matthew Centrowitz cloking 51.5 seonds over the bell lap took the honors in the men's 1500m final with a time of 3:37.25. Robby Andrews, who in the home stretch managed to surge by 6 runners finished in second place with a time of 3:38.75 and leaving Olympic games silver medalist Leo Manzano in third.Video>>
