Renaud Lavillenie who set a new Pole Vault record of 6.16m on Saturday (15) will not defend his world indoor title in Sopot, Poland next month.

The Frenchman after clearing the record-braking 6.16m tried a new height of 6.21m but botched the attempt and cut the inside of his left foot. After the meeting he was taken to one of the Donetsk hospitals where 12 stitches were put on his wound.

After arriving in Paris on Monday he went to a hospital to do a closer inspection after which he made a decision to withdraw from World Indoor Championships in March 7-9.

"it's not worth taking the slightest risk for the future."  Lavillenie said on Monday afternoon to Associated press.

Lavillenie won the world indoor title back in 2012 in Istanbul and later same year he added Olympic Gold medal to his rewards in London.
