• Ennis Voted Britsh Olympian of the Year

Jessica Ennis, who was named European female Athlete of the year two weeks ago, has been voted British Olympic Athlete of the Year for 2012. Ennis, the Olympic heptathlon champion received the most votes from the fans around the Great Britain narrowly beating Mo Farah.

At the London Olympics, in front of 80,000 crowd Ennis scored 6.955 points to take the womens heptathlon crown. Her result stands in the fith place in womens heptathlon all time list in the wolrd. Besides her Olympic gold in London, Ennis won the European outdoor championship title in Helsinki in June. 

Ennis received 48% of the votes to win the British Olympic athlete of the year award, while Farah received 44% of the votes.

"Thank you to all of the UK Athletics fans for voting me the British Olympic Athlete of the Year – what an honour," the Sheffield athlete said.

"The support of all the athletics fans is so important for us athletes and this year especially – your support at all the events running up to London was so important.

"What a great year 2012 has been."
