It was the first major marathon victory for Mo Farah since he turned to marathon running a year ago. In April, Mo Farah finished third at London Marathon with a time of 2:06:21.
“Definitely, emotions are high,” he said. “It’s a great start. It’s definitely positive. It’s a major marathon. Definitely happy, more than happy.”
“I know I’m capable of mixing with the guys and can run a decent time,” he said. “I know I could have gone a lot faster today.”
Mosinet Geremew Bayih of Ethiopia finished 13 seconds behind Farah to claim second place as Japan's Suguru Osako came in third in a new Japanese record of 2:05:50.
